Timeanddate reports a roughly 59% historical cloudy-day signal for Ceuta on 2 August since 2000. That does not predict 2027, but it makes a weather-aware plan essential. Strait cloud/fog can differ sharply over short distances.

Transport reality
The core connection is ferry from Algeciras. Capacity, check-in times and security controls make a same-morning crossing risky for a once-only event. The robust plan is to sleep in Ceuta on 1 August.
For a one-off event, optimise for robustness rather than theoretical travel time: arrive early, avoid roadside parking and expect temporary traffic restrictions.

Open eastern/southern waterfront
Lower-risk operationally than a tiny viewpoint if authorities create public observation areas. Prioritise capacity and an unobstructed sky over scenic exclusivity.

Best option: be on the correct side of the Strait the night before and move locally on foot/taxi.

Convenient for services and access, subject to whatever event perimeter is announced.
Algeciras only as gateway
Useful before/after the trip, but relying on a same-morning ferry is a high-risk eclipse strategy.
