2027 total solar eclipse in Marbella
A strong comfort-and-duration compromise: much longer totality than Málaga city, extensive accommodation and an excellent historical cloud signal.
Eclipse-day timeline
What happens, and when
Times are local CEST and rounded to the minute for representative city-centre coordinates. Published city durations are cross-checked against IGN where available and Timeanddate; the Explorer/ranking calculate exact coordinates, so nearby points can differ by seconds. At maximum the Sun is roughly ≈39° high at azimuth ≈96° (E).
Weather strategy
Cloud risk and Plan B
Timeanddate reports about 7% historical cloud cover on 2 August since 2000. That is a very favorable climatological signal, not a forecast; coastal low cloud remains possible and the final site should follow short-range guidance.
Getting there
Transport reality
Marbella is road/bus based and has no railway station. Málaga airport is the major gateway; the A-7/AP-7 is the critical eclipse-day corridor.
For a one-off event, optimise for robustness rather than theoretical travel time: arrive early, avoid roadside parking and expect temporary traffic restrictions.
Scout before eclipse day
Candidate viewing areas
These are planning candidates, not official 2027 viewing sites. Capacity, parking and access can change once local authorities publish eclipse-day arrangements.
Western Marbella seafront
Large public coastal spaces and easy access from hotel areas. Prefer a broad section rather than a tight landmark viewpoint.
San Pedro de Alcántara beach
Farther west and slightly deeper into totality, with a broad coastal setting and useful road options toward Estepona.
Nueva Andalucía coast
Practical if staying around Puerto Banús/Nueva Andalucía. Scout for unobstructed sky and avoid relying on private beach-club access.
Stay strategy
Where to stay for Marbella
Marbella centre
Walkable, large hotel base and simple city-break logistics.
San Pedro / Nueva Andalucía
A smart western base if duration and a possible Estepona move matter.
Estepona fallback
Deeper totality and similar low-cloud climatology; compare availability early rather than moving on eclipse morning.

Sources & methodology
IGN is our official Spanish reference; Timeanddate provides secondary city cross-checks and historical cloud signals. The Explorer/ranking use Astronomy Engine for representative coordinates, so small point-to-point differences are expected.
