Málaga is the easiest major-airport base but gives up substantial totality versus bases farther west. If you stay in the city, choose the area according to whether you want pure city-break convenience or a cleaner western exit toward Marbella and Estepona.

Misericordia / western Málaga
People using Málaga as the gateway but wanting to preserve a realistic Marbella/Estepona branch.
You remain inside Málaga while starting closer to the A-7 westbound decision and a broad coastal viewing candidate.
If you intend to remain entirely car-free, Centro/Soho or Huelin may be more attractive.
